Alleluia Banner

I finished this for our church 2 years ago.  Decided to bing it home and deepen the colors of the "alluluia' and the "lillies" on the bottom right.  They did not stand out enough.  It was my frist attempt at a banner.  I have entered it on the Babylock Contest site.  The only problem...it entered sideways.  I had it the proper way but.   I guess I am still learning.  Had trouble for 2 days with this site.  I can't be just me.  (I hope.)

Save the selvages!!!!

I have several friends who save their selvages.  Making fabric from them allows for repurposing.  These resourceful ladies have graciously refused the saved strips and have convinced me that I needed to try this thrify craft.  I was hoping to find someone to take these off my hands but have failed.  I was bored one day and just wanted to hear the hum of Bernie so I stitched them together forming fabric.  It sat on my ironing board until I fired up the beast.  Ironing it, uncovered an interesting piece.  Words, colorful dots and patches of color and blankness teased me ti fubd a use.  Lots of saved zippers and fabric for lining were also screaming to be made useful.  These are the end results.  Handy little bags.  I was so surprised and pleased when my loving daughter thought one would be useful.  It happily lives in her work desk holding personal-use objects.  Mine will probably hold sewing items.  Thanks ladies for the inspiration.  I continue to save selvages!!!

What a weekend!!!

Had the whole family here.  Someone was left behind.  Wonder when they will realize?  teehee.  Actually, grandson decided to spend a few extra days with us and we love it.
I hope to get busy with other projects soon.    This is the best part of being a Grammy!!!

Serging and Merging!!!

Have ALOT of vintage fabric from a 38 box purchase which hubby found.  Thought I had better get using it.  A new quilt book by Sharon V. Rotz got my juices flowing.  Good old BabyLock Evolution Serger is so much fun to drive, it seemed a good match all around.  The top looks scrappy which I love.  I am putting on the borders and there are prairie points that will also encircle it.  Stayed tuned and I will picture it when done.

Getting ready for a houseful of family this weekend.  Fun!!!!

Today is my first born's BD.  Happy Birthday Josh!

Pray

Pray for those who gave us and maintain our freedoms.  Pray for those who rescue us when we are in need.  Pray for those who provide our everyday needs.  Pray for us all.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!!

UFO no more!

This was a Mystery Quilt a few years ago.  Done by our Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild, I only finished the top for show and tell.  Well, I finished it and it hangs in a place of honor in our bedroom.  The room was changed from 'hunting lodge' complete with snowshoes to a more feminine airy decor.  After 13 years it was time for a change.  We love it!  Til next time-keep sewing!

Phew!

Resting up today as Grandboys were here.  Exhausted! You can see the quilts I made for them.  Tossed 9 patch if I remember correctly.  One is logging fabric other is working vehicle fabric.  They love them.  So do I when the beds aren't pulled apart by them.  Linen change due so ....thought I would share part of the reason I am bushed.

I can grow stuff too!

Besides knitting, I can grow-somethings.  This is an orchid I bought 2 yrs. ago in Florida.  It was just a few sprigs of green.  It is twice the size and has the tiny white orchids called 'stars'.  Hurray!

I can knit!!

As you can see, I can knit.  Really.  Made this poncho/sweater for my Granddaughter.  Followed a pattern from Bernat Softee Baby yarn.  Called for buttons but I put on flowers.  Covered the metal snaps with a green gingham so they would blend in.
I have plenty of yarn left so I plan a jumper for next fall.  She is a southern gal.

Did I mention....

that I love heirloom sewing?  Well, I do.  I have taken a few seminars from the Martha Pullen group.  Here is an example of a pillow top made entirely on the serger.  The embroidery is ready-made.  But, the rest, yes, serged!!!  I love my serger as it has the air threading.  Those of you who sew know this little Baby's name.

My dream is to take a course in Alabama with Martha.  I guess you could say it is on my 'bucket list'.  Enjoy the sun and find time to sew (even if it is mending).

Snails, Nails and Puppy dog tails and Boas!!?

Oh my!  What one does for a Grandchild.  Davey spent 2 days with us as school was out for the Spring break.  Wow!  Did we have fun!  Reptile Land below Williamsport and then to Borders as Gramps tried out golf clubs.   Dinosaur books are more fun soooo....we got a book. Memories made for all.

Easter Saturday

Happy Easter!  Not forgetting what the holiday is about but looking at it from a child's point of view, I have decorated.

The Grandkids are coming and I want them to remember the holidays at this Gramma's House.  That is the only reason I decorate anymore.  My Hubby wouldn't care and as for myself, my memories suffice.
Hoping your childhood memories bring you joy.

Holy Friday

Just remembering how this man loved me so much that he suffered and died for my redemption and so that I might live in Heaven forever.

Reliving my Childhood

Aahhh, Sisterhood!  I had a milestone BD recently-actually 1/2 yr. ago.  Being able to share time with my sister brought back so many memories.  Her gift of a basket with nostalgic items got me thinking and E-Baying.   The result is additions to my 'toy family'.  Here they are.

If you are as old as I am you may know these ladies as Ginny dolls.  Our little blondie has the bent knees, just like the ones Jane and I owned.  But, I could not resist the dark haired beauties.  And the price was right.I am now awaiting a CD with patterns so these ladies will have a wardrobe.  Just like the one my Mom (Mrs. Santa) sewed for us so long ago.  Jane and I both have Grandgirls.  I just hope they like having an 8" Ginny as much as we did.

Trying again.

Once again, I am trying to blog.  I have enjoyed other's blogs but really never feel I have anything to share.  No words of wisdom or nifty things I have tried.  BUT, here it goes.
I finished a sock!  Yes, one sock.  By means of a sock loom and a hank of yarn, I now own a homecrafted sock.  Too bad that I have 2 feet.  This sock is cute.  Pretty one might even say.  Especially since I used a self-patterning yarn.  It is soft and pretty.  (SEE below)

But, I need to have webbed toes on my one sock. You see well--take a look. See what I mean.  I haven't done the toe seam as of yet..but.
Oh, that is the sock loom and hook.  I think I will try again. Have any ideas as to what I might do with one sock that needs a web-toed foot?
